Our history

It started with the rails.

The Texas State Historical Association records both the Fort Worth & Rio Grande and Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe railroads at Cresson in 1887. The community grew into a place for shipping, ranching and local trade.

The city's history describes a cotton gin, hotel, bank, school and other businesses. The railroads linked the small community to a much bigger region.

Cresson incorporated in November 2001 and elected its first city council in 2002. Its railroad identity remains an important part of understanding the town today.

The historical crossroads and depot photographs come from the City of Cresson's history collection. Their capture dates are not supplied; neither image is presented as a current street or railway view.
